The Fasted State and effects on Mental Performance

Hi everyone,

I’m currently on day 7 of a fast. I’ve been doing fasting for a very long time, usually 1-2 day fasts.

On this particular fast, I’ve really noticed the benefits of being in the ‘fasted state’.

I am self-employed, and sometimes I struggle with procrastination in my own business, but I have noticed that since day 3 of this fast, I have been much more proactive, organised, I procastinate less, I have way better attention to detail.

Every time I fast, once I get to the second day, it always makes me feel like a ‘fog’ has been lifted from my mind, now that my body is basically clear of any food. I have also felt huge rushes of energy that are unusual to me, I have still been working out and lifting weights during this fast and I have actually had more energy in the gym as opposed to then I train without fasting.

It got me thinking that I would prefer to be in the fasted state as much as possible, as I feel like I’m a more optimal version of myself and so I’m thinking of trailing for the next 2 months doing ADF, basically fast every second day, i’ll eat +50% calories on the eating days to balance it over a week.

I am just wondering if anyone else has felt the heightened brain performance of the ‘fasted state’ and if they have tried designing their lifestyle around it?

Also on a side note, something else I notice is that I fall asleep much easier, but I also don’t seem to sleep as much, since day 2, I have been sleeping about 6.5 hours a night, I wake up very early, whereas normally in a fed state I will sleep 7.5-8 hours.
