Tracking by food weight in LoseIt and Fitness Pal?

I downloaded 3 tracking apps. Cronometer, My Fitness Pal, and Lose It. I was going to track as much as I could using my food scale, but I noticed only Cronometer has an option for grams when I use it. I like the user interface of the other two more, but is there some secret option to measure by weight? I thought that was the gold standard for calorie counting.

Answer

On MyFitnessPal, usually if you search you can find an entry with the units in grams or ounces. It may just not be the first option that comes up. And you can always manually add a food to the database with the units in grams, in cases where you aren’t able to find a suitable entry in the database.

Answer

I never found an app that had everything I needed. I have also saw studies that showed the inaccuracy in calories from food to food and app to app. I think this is because most of these apps use users to input the data. I just use my food scale and write everything down.

Answer

I’ve used MFP for over a decade and always weigh my solid foods and use gram entries. You just have to do some sifting to find the right entries. For whole foods, try adding “USDA” to your search term.
