Hey guys
I have been thinking lately about eating meat once again. Technically I would classify as a pescatarian as I eat fish on occasion, but I’m wondering if I’m making things more difficult by limiting my food options.
Has anyone else had experience with this?
I have been veggie for about 5 years
i’ve been vegetarian for 15 years, and have always had an active lifestyle and have a very clean bill of health. i was also vegan for 4 of those years- the amount of food prep and energy that goes into being vegetarian by comparison is virtually nothing. there are healthy (and tasty) meat substitutes for nearly every meal, so i’m not sure what sort of limitations you’re concerned with (please do elaborate!)
in all honesty if you’re swayed by the taste of meat then that’s one perfectly valid reason to quit a veggie lifestyle - but i would not consider being vegetarian a challenge to a healthy diet or to intermittent fasting.
(editing to add that i have been using IF for the past year, for maintenance as well as benefits outside of losing weight)
Leaving aside the moral issues i don’t know why you would switch from one of the healthiest frameworks for a diet to include foods that raise your risk of some health complications. Plan your veggie diet to include everything you need for health and make sure you’re getting plenty of variety
Please stop calling yourself a vegetarian if you eat fish (which is an animal). You are not, you just happen to only eat some animals and not others.
This is incredibly frustrating to actual vegetarians who are often served fish because so many fake vegetarians eat it. It makes for so many uncomfortable situations because some dumbasses decided that a certain segment of the animal population doesn’t really count.
Eat what you want, but just stop calling yourself something you’re not.
I went pure vegetarian for almost 2 years. Then I started incorporating fish and eggs.
Unfortunately, I gained a lot of weight during the pandemic. It was a combination of gyms closing and losing my momentum/motivation to go back once they re-opened, too much drinking (me and some buddies got really into bourbon during the pandemic), and too much snacking (much easier now that I work from home). So in an effort to get back in shape, I met with a personal trainer who set me up with a meal plan and some nutritional macros to target. It was REALLY hard to get anywhere near my protein targets without eating meat, so I made the decision to stop being a vegetarian (well, pescatarian) and start eating chicken/turkey again. It’s helped tremendously, as I’ve dropped almost all of the pandemic weight that I gained.
Once I get back into shape, I may go pescatarian again. I honestly prefer not to eat meat. But good fish isn’t cheap, so Idk…. We’ll see.
