Weight Gain???

Hey all, I’m new to the group and IF in general. Did anyone else experience weight gain when they started out? I’ve been on 16:8 for 10 days now but I’ve actually gained 5 pounds in that time. Any thoughts?

I don’t feel like I’m eating more than usual during my eating window, and I’ve cut out sugar and artificial sweeteners as well. I was expecting progress to be slow, but not negative.

Any advice?

Answer

The point is that you don’t have to think or believe that you don’t eat a lot, you have to set a calorie value that you don’t want to exceed and be sure you don’t exceed it. If you notice your weight gaining lately then you are sure that you are eating more calories than your body is capable of burning every day.

Answer

From my days in 16:8, I remember it felt like you’re doing good, like you’re putting in the effort, but honestly 16 hours was just not enough to do it. 16 hours fasting is ok, as a warm up, a stepping stone, but in all honesty its not enough yet to make things change. Our food is so calorie dense in this modern age, even 16 hours of not eating isn’t enough to change the balance towards weightloss.

Just telling you like it is from what I’ve seen through my journey in this.
