Weightlifting and fasting

Hi there. I was curious about intermittent fasting and it’s effectiveness as well as if it is a healthy/mostly sustainable option. I would like to do this daily, I don’t want to do one day of fasting and then one day of eating. I’m thinking my eating window would be from 11am-7pm. But my question is can I still gain muscle? I’m not looking to gain a lot, I just want slight definition. If so, what’s the best approach? Because of my personal schedule my workout time is restricted to 5am-630am. I usually drink a protein shake during that time. Is it ok to be fasting while weight training? I feel am not sure how effective it would be to weight lift on an empty stomach. Thanks for any help in advance.

Answer

Make sure your water intake level is solid the night before your workout.

I’ve never lifted that early in the morning but it should be fine. I usually do 45 minutes of high intensity interval training with kettlebells and dumbbells at noon and then have my first meal of the day (usually an egg white omelette with bacon or sausage, spinach and cheese).

The thing to realize is that you will steadily replace the fat with muscle, so don’t expect to lose much weight.
