What if I break my fast from time to time?

Like now I’m currently on the 3rd day of a 5 day water fast. I wanted to go longer, but I know I’ll have to break it on Friday because I’m going to a party. I’ll start water fasting again on Monday. Can this work as effectively as a normal water fast without breaking it? I’m going to water fast till I get to my desired weight.

Then it’s two different fasts, which is fine if that’s what you want to do.

But is two short fasts with a party in between as effective as going for a longer one and not having the break? No.

A little confused.

A water fast is typically a couple days to maybe a week or two. Some go longer with some building up. Doing a series of “water fasts” for weight loss, notably rolling 48s or even 72s. But doing a single water fast until you lose your weight is extreme. But it’s what you seem to be saying.

A guy did do this. Forgot his name. He was medically supervised. Lost a lot of weight. No apparent negative impact. He died suddenly a significant period of time after - but it wasn’t attributed to his fasting. But it’s still cautionary IMO.

Rolling occasional water fasts can be a successful strategy for weight loss. But I recommend warming yourself up slowly to longer fasts.

I’ve been doing OMAD for 3.5 years. Became super simple to do. Never hungry. Eat to fullness every day. I wouldn’t go back to frequent eating even if I knew I’d not regain my weight. I just love sitting down to eat with my body actually wanting nutritious food, and only stopping when it’s had enough. This leaves me completely satisfied and no desire to eat until three following day. It takes some time to get used to (2-3 weeks), but then it’s pretty simple. I do longer 36-72 you’re water fasts occasionally, for autophagy more than weight loss.

Whatever you decide is great. Just don’t stop eating completely without a great deal of research!!

Personally, I’d break the fast on Thursday in case there were digestive issues to contend with on refeeding. Weight loss rate is a little slower in the early days of a fast, but not enough that I’d worry about how often fast was broken. It’s a marathon not a sprint.
