What is Oat fibre?

Hello, can people please tell me a bit more about oat fibre? Is it the same as oat flour or different? How do you use it? Can you eat a large amount? Is it of a similar purpose to xantham gum?

Thanks

Answer

Oat Fibre is Oat bran, basically. And yes it’s usually the main part or part of oat flour.

You should definitely not eat large amounts of it as it can cause a bezoar (seen in many cases). It is not similar in purpose to Xanthan gum, which is a binder of a different structure.

Answer

There are actually two different types of oat fiber. There’s the fiber from inside the oat groats, which is soluble fiber. Then there’s the oat fiber that’s sold as a separate product, which is usually the insoluble fiber from the inedible hull. It’s usually blended with high-carb ingredients.
