why am I not losing weight inspite of fasting?

I did a 72 hour fast recently and at the end of it my weight was exactly the same. It doesn’t make sense and it’s so discouraging. Any idea why this could be happening?

I did a water, green tea (and vitamins) only fast. I’ve had success with this previously so i don’t know why it’s not working now

Did you weigh yourself at the same time of day? When fasting I typically weigh more later in the day from all the water I’ve drank than in the morning. Also consistency is key so try to keep going! I know it’s hard when you don’t see results

Answer

Everybody’s body reacts different, and everybodys weight can fluctuate several times a day. It’s possible you weighed yourself before fasting at a light period, and after at a heavy time. Trends with weightloss are seen over weeks, not days or hours.

Answer

The same happened to me on my first fast. Honestly it means that you drank enough water to not be dehydrated. I find the actual on water weight lost after 3 days almost negligible.A better way to track you progress is to take measurements (arms, hips , waist, thighs

My 2 cents. Could be cortisol raising from the stress? Which can contribute to water retention. Maybe try shorter fasts more often and be sure to re-feed adequately and carefully. Also the scale is just a snapshot in time….perhaps step back and look at a longer trend? In any case, there is probably some non scale victories and metabolic healing happening anyway…..

Answer

I did a few long fasts and never lost weight. Though I agree with people who say it’s too soon to tell when one is fasting like that. I’ve been doing a one meal a day “fast” for 2-3 weeks and my weight has dropped by several pounds. Haven’t weighed as little as I do now for years. I will keep doing longer fasts when I get to target weight, but my aim hasn’t been and wasn’t ever really to lose weight with those fasts.
