20:4 no longer sustainable for me

About six months ago, I began IT with 16:8 and it was doing wonders. However, I have a new job that desperately requires me to have energy, especially early in the morning. Last year, I skipped breakfast as I knew that I was going to eat at, let’s say at 11am; with 7pm being when I stop eating all together (the previous night). However, I now wake up tired; Im tired at work; Im moody; realized that I really need the energy for work as it requires a lot of movement, lifting, etc.

Im at odds here. Is it safe/ideal to go back to 16:8? I would gladly do 20:4 again, but it’s not sustainable for the time being. I tried to do OMAD but due to my circumstances, that isn’t sustainable either. It seems that I can do 20:4 on days that I have off.

IF is meant to be a tool, that is sustainable, to help you in your journey towards a healthier you. I say, opt for what you’ll stick with, that makes you feel best in every way. Things may change in the future, so adjust as needed, but above all, focus on how you feel best. Hope this helps!

I recently switched back to 16/8 from 20/4. I’m still maintaing a calorie deficit and i have lost weight. However, it’s just been a week since i moved back into 16/8 so not sure of the long term effects.

Answer

Most days I’m doing 16:8 or thereabouts and I lose weight. I am counting/limiting calories although not to an extreme degree. For me it’s eating just two meals a day and not snacking throughout the day that is the biggest game changer, rather than the fasting, at least as far as weight loss. Of course I’m hoping the fast will have other metabolic benefits as well.

I say, do what works best for you. If all you can manage is 16:8, do that. You’re not a failure and whatever your goals, you should still be able to reach them.
