Advice for coffee

I came home from work this week and my wife told me about I.F. and that she started doing that. I’m all in as well but my only struggle on the 16-8 is my morning coffee. I need it and I do not like regular black coffee. I’m sure this is a common issue, what have you IF veterans done? Thanks

I weened myself off my morning coffee with creamer to straight black coffee within about a month of starting IF. I wanted the full benefits of IF without dirty fasting. I’m not a fan of black coffee but am proud of myself everyday When I make it to my window without my creamer. IF since June 2021.

That was the hardest part for me. I loved my coffee and creamer and I didn’t like it without . But once you get a few weeks into it, you start to like the black coffee. Also, I started buying better coffee, which helps. You will realize your just addicted to sugar.

Honestly I would try investing in a good little pour over system (Hario V60 is great) with some good beans. The aero press is also fantastic for making a great cup. I hated black coffee up until this year when I realized that the coffee I was drinking was kindof shitty lol. Now black coffee is all a drink and it’s delicious!

It depends on ur goals of IF.

If it’s to reduce ur eating window to make it easy to reduce total calories, then have that cup of coffee, it won’t change much for ur total daily calories.

However, if it’s to fast to lower insulin levels or work towards autophagy then hold off on anything but black coffee (or tea).

fwiw there are studies that suggest a black coffee during a fast can even promote autophagy!!

Dr. Fung says you can have a little full cream in your coffee and it won’t break your fast…like a tablespoon. I do that and sometimes an equal packet and I don’t have any problems. Sweetener makes some people hungry, so YOMMV.

Some folks just tough it out, some experiment with better coffee/brewing, some swear by a little salt and/or cinnamon, and others just ween themselves over a few weeks adding a little less in each time.

Black coffee, at least for me, taste subtly “sweet” long term once you get used to it. Hope you get through that hump, or just adjust your feeding window if it’s too difficult to give up the creamer and sugar ;)

Sooo maybe I am doing this wrong, coffee and cream/sugar is the only cheat I have, I am still losing weight. Sounds like I might lose more without any sweetener? Just a few calories will avoid this goal of the total insulin drop?

One more question, when I’m reaaaal hungry I eat a few pickles since they’re so low in calories. Is this also setting me back?

Also just FYI I don’t combine the coffee and pickles haha

I was fasting for the first 6 months with half and half in my coffee. It will be better if you drink black but as long as you don’t put sweetener in, including no calorie sweeteners, you will get results. Eventually you should work up to clean fasting of course. Just saying you can start with a little training wheels

I’ve heard of some people putting MCT or some type of coconut oil? I weaned myself off cream, as I loved it as well. Now I’m completely used to it. Give yourself time to make these changes until you build up to the schedule that works for you. Personally, I love toast with breakfast and I’m not giving that up. I just try to eat dinner by 4pm.

Seriously, choke it down for a week or two and you’ll adjust to black coffee. Prior to starting IF I use to be ‘a little coffee with my creamer’ type of person and I’ve converted. You can do it!

In my opinion drink it as you like it Really doesn’t matter The small amount of creamer well not hold your weight . In my experience with IF I drink a coffee with heavy cream to hold my IF tell the eating window And i had no problems if losing weight.Still losing grams every day Just enjoy it and 🥂
