Changing my life in 21 days (day 21 of fasting)

Notes:

My final update comes a bit late. I had originally planned to end the fast on 3/1 in the morning, as I had a flight to Korea in the evening that day. I ended up needing to change my flight to the early morning, so it meant being suddenly incredibly busy packing and missing the chance to take an official final photo with the same angles. Since I wasn’t able to break the fast, I ended up having to extend the fast for the duration of the 16 hour flight (as I didn’t want to break it on the flight and be sick). I was not tempted by the mediocre airplane food anyway.

Weight on the scale went down by 29 pounds in 21 days. I suppose roughly 9 pounds is water/food weight, and the rest is mostly fat.

I see differences primarily on my back, love handles, and chest flab. I also didn’t take any lower body pics, but I think this part had the biggest difference, since my pants feel much more comfortable now. I was also finally able to put on a size L shirt again, although I’ll wait a bit more before casting out my comfortable XLs.

During the fast I walked a lot. It was great at distracting me from hunger and I would suggest going for a walk whenever you get food urges. Towards the end of the fast, it became harder for me to do longer walks, especially because it seemed like my muscles didn’t recover as quickly from previous walks. I also got a lot of calf cramps, although I was consuming plenty of electrolytes and stretching regularly.

I lifted weights about 6 times total, and I definitely don’t see any muscle loss. Strongly recommend to at least do some light lifting while fasting!

Now I still switch to OMAD for 1-2 months. Whereas fasting is a challenge, I think OMAD is a perfectly reasonable way of life. It’s incredibly easy to skip breakfast and lunch when you have a busy work schedule and only eat dinner. I’m looking forward to all the great food in Korea now.

I plan to continue updating my instagram account (now called sustainable.omad) here and there with health/fasting related posts.
