Does Antabuse (disulfiram) affect / stop a fast?

Quitting drinking and long fasts. I really need to do both for my health and life. I have been experiencing some health problems for about seven years now that I know will be healed or greatly affected by a long fast because I’ve done OMAD for long stretches before. However, if I can’t fast because I’m an alcoholic, maybe I should just worry about that first.

Anyway, point of the post is simply about Antabuse and whether if affects a fast? If I can take Antabuse while fasting, I will be more eager to start it. If it does affect a fast, I may wait to start it and attempt to get a three or four day fast done before I start it.

Answer

Based on the mechanism of action it doesn’t seem like it should interfere, I doubt it has been studied, though.

From someone whom dealt with the same issues, I’d tackle the alcohol first, then think about weight and fasting once you’ve made some progress there. The amount of self-control you will gain just by quitting drinking will shock you. You’ll be able to do things you never thought possible.
