Eating Frozen Berries

I’ve recently started buying fruits from the frozen aisle as they save me much more money, might be a stupid question but would eating berries whilst they’re still frozen (raspberries, blackberries, blueberries) provide the same nutritional profile as when they are defrosted?

I actually prefer the taste when they’re frozen as they are way less tart and eating them like this also means I don’t need to mess about defrosting them.

Answer

Frozen fruits are harvested and processed at the peak of ripeness thus retaining higher levels of nutrients when they reach consumption compared to their refrigerated and room-temperature counterparts. So long as the fruit is not frozen brick solid, if you enjoy eating produce frozen that is perfectly safe AND extremely nutritious. Frozen fruit makes a great snack on a hot day and a delicious dessert, as you may have already discovered. Bonus, as you mentioned, purchasing produce frozen is budget friendly.
