First 48 hour fast

Started my first 48 hour fast this afternoon, after 1 year of consistent intermittent fasting at 21-3 intervals daily. Hoping to work up to a 7 day fast. Any recommendations on making that jump?

I’ve just started to do a fast a week increasing one day each week. Tomorrow I’ll be starting a 4 day one after completing a 3 day one last week. That incremental style has worked for me in other things too and so far working well. Maybe something like it would work for you too.

Like, 36 hour fast might be the middle step. Last meal at dinner, fast for a whole day, then eat the next morning. It you kept doing it over and over, it would be called ADF, alternate day fasting. So some people do 36:12 and then shrink it down to 42:6 over time.

But hopefully you make it to 48 hours this time!!

in my experience, if you can do a 48 hr fast, you can do a week long fast. it gets easier around day 3, sometimes day 2. sometimes only day 1 is hard. but after those 3 hard days, the rest are the same low level hunger. practicing keto for a few weeks will make those infamous first 3 days so much more comfortable. i also suggest that you fill up on your nutrition before going a week or more.

more than once, i jumped from doing a few years of 23 hr OMAD to multi week (up to a month), with no in-between buildup.
