How much sugar can your body process per hour?

I’m finding anywhere from 20g to 60g per hour for both fructose and glucose but would love more details and specifics.

From what I understand consuming more sugar than your body can process in any given time (based on insulin response) causes the sugar to do the following:

  1. Circulate for longer in the blood
  2. Turn to stored energy instead of being “fed” to cells (with the help of insulin)

Please correct and clarify my limited understanding.

Answer

There isn’t a hard rule of thumb as it depends on what type of sugar as well as what you eat with it.

Your bodyweight and composition also affect it as well.

A continuous glucose monitor is what you’re looking for.
