How to fast without losing weight

Hi everyone- I realize my situation is quite different than most of the posts here. I’ve been lurking for a few weeks and appreciate the support you all give one another so I want to ask for your advice.

I have been fasting for just over a month and I feel pretty good. I still have some learning to do about what to eat when, but have fasted for 18+ hours a couple of times. One problem I’m encountering is I getting enough calories inside of my eating window. I’m fasting for mental and physical health and to gain muscle, not to loose weight. I work out 5 times a week alternating between cardio and weights, same as before I started fasting. I’ve lost 4 pounds and am feeling discouraged. I’m 60, F, started at 118.5 and am now 114.5. My bloodwork is good. No history of serious illness. My goal weight is 123 with more muscle mass.

I’ve always eaten a healthy diet so I feel like my option is to eat more, though like so many on this sub I’m not hungry when I fast.

I included a lot of info to try to answer your questions in advance.

Any advice you can offer is much appreciated.

Answer

Maintenance is probably too little, and you should look for bulking and put even more pressure on protein intake. I’m not in the same situation as you, and it’s difficult to advise. There is a sub that combines IF and exercise. Please check
