Ok, I can see how that title may have been a tad inflammatory but I do need to do just that, I’m having a colonoscopy. The procedure is sometime Wednesday but I figure I may as well do it in conjunction with a longer fast. I plan on doing 5 days starting a few hours ago, Sunday 7pm to Friday 7pm.
Usually when I fast my bowels just shut down… Will emptying them forcefully get in the way of my fasting? I was planning to go on for two days beyond the procedure.
The day before I’m supposed to take a bottle of Magnesium Citrate (10 ounces, about 2900 milligrams of magnesium; I’m guessing I’m not supplementing any extra magnesium on this fast). No calories on it. Also a bottle of MiraLAX, which is polyethylene glycol powder that sucks up water and brings it to your intestines. Also no calories. To top it off 4 Durolax tablets the night before. I’m wondering if any of that would have an effect on the metabolic processes that happen under fast.
Quick update for anybody that cares about colonoscopies and prepping for them.
Took my first dose of Miralax. Actually I got the generic product, with no flavoring or anything added. In water it doesn’t even impart a taste to the water; my well water at home has more ‘taste’ than this. Polyethylene Glycol is basically a molecule that links water and because it just pass through your digestive system it helps to ‘moisturize’ what otherwise would be dry and hard… I see no reason for this one to have any effect on the fast itself.
