Hi Everyone! I’m 27F, 5’5”, SW: 181 lbs, GW: 135 lbs. I’ve had many years of unsuccessful long-term weight loss and yo-yo dieting has caused me to ultimately weigh the most I ever have in my entire life. I’ve had family members and friends who’ve had success with IF so it’s sparked my interest. Ive always been a grazer/snacker and therefore, I felt I could never even think of nor possess the ability to fast for 16+ hours. I’m on Day 2 (newbie!) of doing 16:8 and so far, I’m feeling great other than a slight headache.
Due to my previous grazing nature, I’m wondering if I should/can eat (at least in the beginning) a snack in between my 2 meals during my non-fasting window. I just wanted to know what the IF community’s thoughts are on snacking and whether or not it is conducive to the ultimate goal of weight loss in mind.
Examples of snacks:
Lastly, what are everyone’s thoughts on carbohydrates coming from things, such as Yukon gold/russet/sweet potatoes, butternut squash, brown rice, chickpea pasta, low carb tortillas (e.g. Siete almond tortillas), and smoothies (fruits+greens)? I’m currently at the beginning of reading The Obesity Code so if Dr. Fung discusses this in more detail, I’m sure I’ll soon find out, but I want to start my IF journey with a good routine that can become habitual.
If anyone has any good resources (books, YouTube videos/channels, podcasts, Reddit posts, etc.) that details meal plans, nutrition (macros/micros), grocery hauls, etc. for weight loss, I’d really appreciate it. Thank you in advance!
I’m going to recommend you start by reading Gin Stephens’ book Fast, Feast, Repeat. It has lots of good advice from her own experience and backed by science.
The thing that I like best about IF is that I don’t need to meal plan or give much thought to food aside from ‘what do I want for lunch today?’
