Well, if you’ve never fasted before jumping into a 7 day fast is not the way to do it! 7 days can be pretty extreme for some people off the bat. Most people start with intermittent fasting and work their way up to multi-days so their body gets used to it. Fasting is like a muscle, you’re supposed to slowly work it up to longer amounts of time, as jumping into it can be rough on the body.

It’s recommended to start small at first like less than one day. That’s probably why you are finding it a struggle, your body isn’t used to it!

I would read the guidelines on the sub and get updated on proper fasting etiquette! It will make it go so much smoother on you. I would start with intermittent fasting (like 18:6 or 20:4) and work your way up to 1, 2, 3 day fasts over time. Fasting isn’t meant to just be jumped into! :) I’ve been fasting for 2-3 years now and even 7 days would be rougher on me. I average about 3-5 days atm for most of my fasts, and it took me a couple weeks/months to even find that easy :)

7 day fast isn’t something you just go and do usually. Start off with something smaller like doing some intermittent fasting of up to 16-18 hours is a good start. Then you can move to omad and add in smaller day or two fasts before working up to a 7. Most of fasting is just getting over the mental hurdles though. It’s just easier to do when you know you only have a few hours versus 6.5 more days.

I did intermittent fasting for a few months first. Ate only between noon and 8PM.

After being inspired by this group, tried a 4 day fast a couple weeks ago. Day 4 got rough but I wasn’t doing electrolytes.

After a 48 hour break, I did a 5 day fast with electrolytes. Got some light headed headedness and slept much more, but when I stopped at 136 hours, I felt like I could have gone longer (I wanted to be able to eat normally for the holidays)

My suggestion is work up to 7 days. Start with intermittent fasting for 2 weeks then try a 24 hour and keep adding 12 hours if you keep feeling good. When things get bad, stop, refeed, restart, and shoot for an additional day or two.

You don’t start weight lifting with 300lb and expect to do well. You shouldn’t do fasting like that either.

Plenty of resources online for water fasting. Have you tried googling? You’ll have a better understanding of the process. Use this Reddit as a support group and questions you may have but at least try to do your research first.
