Answer

Do NOT take advise from random internet strangers on doing IF while pregnant. Don’t F around with things when you are pregnant and instead listen only to your doctor. If you have a miscarriage, god forbid but they occur 30% of the time, you will blame this thread and your decisions from it for the rest of your life.

My wife was on a low carb diet, rx’ed by her dr, during her fourth pregnancy and was actually losing weight up to 6 months in. Baby came out healthy.

Answer

he says a few times in this faq not to do fasting while pregnant.

He doesn’t really say to do intermittent fasting instead he just says that short fasts less than 24 hours may be ok for some but that he doesn’t recommend fasting to pregnant people. Personally, I think it’s a horrible idea during pregnancy. Don’t do anything that could possibly harm the development of your fetus. You can do without oral nutrition because of your fat stores but you don’t know how that affects all the development that’s happening.

During pregnancy is the time to do the more conservative dietary approaches to prevent weight gain, like calorie counting. When you’re finishing up breast feeding if you intend to do that, get back into fasting.

Answer

Dr. Fung specifically says that children and pregnant women should NOT fast. This is most likely because you do not want to run the risks associated with depriving a growing child of nutrients for any length of time.
