Is there any real benefit of doing a “master cleanse”?

The one where its a mixture of lemon, cayenne (sp?) and maple syrup? I’ve seen it before online but i was considering trying it for a few days to see if it helps any, but if anyone has alternate reccomendations, or it isnt as good as it seems, please let me know. I only fast right now over the weekend, and i would consider just continuing drinking only water then.

Answer

I did this a million years ago when it was popular. I felt great on it and for a while afterwards. I credit it with my first realizing the impact what I ate had on my general health and mood.

I’d not to it today. I know too much more about nutrition. The lemon, cayenne and maple syrup was so delicious though.

Answer

No, Maple syrup has a ton of sugar which defeats the whole fast by raising your insulin. Just go with water, electrolytes, and black coffee/espresso as a base. If you need a little help Dr Fung recommends heavy whipping cream in your coffee or a small amount of salted bone broth. But ideally you just use the ‘base’

Answer

depends on you really it has been around since the early 40’s

it can be useful for some ppl as an introduction to fasting and it may work as it is a liquid fast

the trick is to use a tiny amount of maple sugar, lemon squeezed and chilli powder

not as good as a pure water fast but master cleanse used to be in vogue before due to a lack of knowledge at that stage now we know more

the chilli is for cleansing the blood

lemon is for cleansing the liver

maple syrup is meant to ward off hunger
