Is there any way to avoid diarrhea that comes right after breaking a longer fast?

Have you been able to avoid it in any way?

Did you eat certain foods to avoid it or do you take some anti-diarrhea medicine for it?

Or is it just impossible?

(I’m talking about a 88h fast)

Answer

I’ve been doing extended fasts for years now and still get the runs most of the time when I break my fast.

It doesn’t matter if I break it with broth, fruit, meat, or anything else I still get the runs. I keep some activated charcoal on hand to at least slow that sucker down a bit.

Answer

No but it always makes me think of the bit in Slaughterhouse 5 by Kurt Vonnegut where all the prisoners of war finally get fed

>An American near Billy wailed that he had excreted everything but his brains. Moments later he said, “There they go, there they go.” He meant his brains. That was I. That was me. That was the author of this book.

Answer

all i did to avoid it was sipped bone broth. waited hours.

ate 1 date. waited hours ate a tiny amount of something else waited etc (not necessarily all in one day - it may have been over a couple days)

refeed super tiny instead of starting with a meal
