It’s been a bit of a week and I’ve undone some hard won gains

I got home last night from a less than brilliant week with family. I’ve always used food as a comfort so my eating went completely out of the window and I’ve put some weight back on. Being perimenopausal it didn’t want to shift in the first place and I’m trying hard not to beat myself up too badly and just get back on plan, starting right now.

If anyone has any advice for avoiding emotional eating in future I’d love to hear it.

Answer

Your gains aren’t gone in just a single day of unhealthy eating.

I’m not an expert on emotional eating and I wouldn’t want to encourage it (though idk to what extend you eat during such a period…). Having said that, if you need it or can’t help it every now and then because of an emotionally tumultuous event or period, just have at it for a day. Get it out of your system and consider it a cheat day, and get back on track the next day. One day of indulgence won’t completely undo the progress that you’ve made through months or years of hard work. Also, remember to drink lots of water when it happens. If you fill your stomach with water during an emotionally fuelled eating spree you can’t eat as much because your stomach can only hold so much contents. Just eat what you want, remember to drink a lot of water during it and get back on track after. It won’t matter in the long run as long as you don’t make it a habit. Don’t be too hard on yourself.
