Loose skin

Does fasting cause less loose skin as opposed to just a calorie deficit or is it likely the same amount regardless? I’ve heard many different opinions on this. What do you guys think from your experience?

Answer

Loose skin is the result of the skin being stretched by excess fat. Some of it will tighten up but it takes time. This is why people think losing weight slowly helps avoid loose skin. It doesn’t. The damage has already been done. The final amount of excess skin depends on a few factors and it’s different for everyone.

My skin is saggy. Upper arms, knees, back upper thighs, butt, stomach. It’s not attractive but I still wear shorts, rompers, dresses. I am finally skinny again and feeling fabulous. I predominantly due OMAD with occasional 48/72 hour fasts. I’m not sure if I’ve seen any visible autophaghy

Fasting can help repair loose skin through autophagy, but it is a very slow process and it may not yield the results you want if you are looking to eliminate it completely. If loose skin is a big enough concern for you that you feel like you can’t live with it at all then surgery is likely your best option to remove it. That being said, I know a few people who have had that surgery and it is incredibly painful and the recovery time can be pretty long. I hope this helps.

I’ve found the opposite, but I’m not substantially overweight. I fasted for 5 straight days last year while taking an anti depressant. The fasting wasn’t intentional, but I had absolutely no hunger. Anyway, I ended up looking deflated with quite a bit of loose skin on my stomach. I was pretty surprised and didn’t expect this at all. Ultimately I gained the weight back (~10 lbs). I’ve now lost the weight again on a slower cut and the loose skin is gone.

We have a girl on here that dropped an incredible amount of weight (I believe 100+ lbs) and she credits her fasting with not having loose skin.

Found this recently.

Seems autophagy is effective fittin during weight loss to help prevent sagging skin. Vs effective after the fact to remove sagging skin.
