The amount of electrolytes you actually need to fast surprised me

I just finished my first 72-hour fast. I felt incredible the whole time and lost 2.5 kg (5.6 lbs) in just three days!

But what really shocked me is the sheer volume of electrolytes you actually need to fast successfully. In my snake juice I weighed 15g of Morton Lite Salt and took two Magnesium capsules each day. At 290 mg of sodium and 350 mg of potassium per 1.4g of Lite Salt, that gave me a daily intake of:

This is all in line with what the Wiki recommends but dear lord I thought my digital scale was broken on the first day. That is a TREMENDOUS amount of salts and SO much more than I was previously eating while fasting. I had to shake the Morton Lite Salt container for like 30 seconds to get enough onto my scale.

I used to feel terrible while fasting and I could never make it nearly as long as 72 hours, but it appears that I was just dramatically under-estimating the amount of daily salts actually required to fast successfully and feel good while doing it.

I think many people don’t realize this point which is why fasting doesn’t catch on as a more mainstream method of weight loss. People (like me) write off fasting as a weight loss method because they had a bad experience due to insufficient electrolyte intake.

I just googled Morton, as I had never heard of it where I’m from. So it’s got 50% less sodium. But when fasting you need extra sodium. Do you take this because it’s just easy as it has the potassium in it? Was a bit confused by the 50% less sodium part.
