What is the consensus on a single piece of SUGAR FREE gum?

I am planning on starting my 16:8 IF journey next week and was wondering what this sub thought about sugar free gum. My plan is to break my fast daily at noon, but would ideally like to chew on a single piece of sugar free gum starting at 8am. Would that be detrimental to my success? Will it mess up my insulin levels even though there is no blood sugar spike? Thanks a bunch!

Answer

No, it won’t be detrimental to your success. Yeah, would it be better to go without it, sure? But if it helps you on your journey to success, then have that piece of gum.

Now, what could be detrimental to your success is making changes faster than you can sustain. It’s about small positive changes over a long period of time.

Best of luck to you.

Answer

I chew it all the time. I also drink sugar free energy drinks and zero sugar pop on some occasions. I still lost weight regardless. Hell, for a while I’d eat Icebreakers like they were candy. If it works for you, do it. If not, avoid it. Gum is actually a great way to satisfy the need to chew but not take in significant calories

Answer

I think chewing the gum will make it harder! I used to be at a pack a day gum chewer. I couldn’t just stop at 1. I also think it makes you hungrier. But once I gave it up cold turkey and got over the hump, I didn’t ever even want it anymore.
