What’s the best protein bar for IF?

I’ve been watching a lot of IF videos and in several of them, the importance of protein has come up.

I’m thinking of eating a protein bar whenever I break my OMAD fast. Since this community has scientific research at its heart, I’m wondering what the best brand/type of protein bar or supplement I should get to maximize the benefits of IF.

Answer

Depends on what your goals are.

Protein bars can be great for their convenience when we’re in a pinch or just want to sneak a little protein into a tasty treat. But they are not by and large the best sources of protein all things considered. They are mostly formulated around being meal replacements or workout recovery, ie there’s a lot of fats and carbs as well. Most protein bars are going to target around 20g of protein for 200 calories. That means that less than half of the bars total calories is protein.

So there’s better ways to get protein in, especially if someone is trying to balance a protein goal and a calorie goal.

Answer

I have gotten the best results eating whole, 1 ingredient, unprocessed foods. For protein - eggs, cold meats, cheese sticks, nuts or seeds, etc as something to grab. It’s something Dr. Fung promotes quite a bit.

Protein powders and bcaas are not great for anyone trying to lower insulin or insulin resistance, I did not see great results when using. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LohrbZwaXr4
