Which is better, two 48 hour fasts, or one 72 hour fast?

So, I have been on a health journey since June of last year, and have been doing really well so far. I am basically always doing at least one meal a day style intermittent fasting. I occasionally add in 2-4 day water fasts.

So, recently I have been doing this… Eat Sunday night. Fast Monday, Eat Tuesday night, fast Wednesday, eat Thursday night. So, 2 48 hour fasts in a week.

Previously, I would do a 72 hour fast each week. So, it would be more like, Eat Sunday, fast Monday, fast Tuesday, eat Wednesday.

Technically, the 2 48 hour fasts give me more total fasting time per week than the 72 hour fast, right? 48 x 2 would be 96 hours of fasting in total… but really, I am still missing the same number of meals each week. 2 meals in each case.

Given that my goal is primarily weight loss, which method do you think would yield the best results?

Answer

Personally, I would pick 72 hours.

The longer the fast, the more you get into deep healing along with cognitive benefits. Plus, the first 48 hours are the hardest part of the fast.

Have you looked into going beyond 72 hours?

Answer

Great routine!!! Don’t overthink it too much. The fasting method that yields the best result is whichever you can accomplish more consistently. Mixing it up based on your schedule is fine. Net calories on the week is the more important number to look at.

Personally I like rolling 48s, to follow an exercise schedule. Every other day my buddies drag me to the gym, we get our asses kicked for an hour, then I go home and eat un-necessary amounts of protein. Point is, eating on workout days and fasting on off-days can work like a dream.
