Hello! I started fasting (18/6) about 3 months ago and I am actually gaining weight. Usually (even before fasting) I eat around 1000 calories a day. I am 25f with a very sedentary lifestyle (medical student). Before fasting I did eat more at night.
I do drink diet coke and chew gum while fasting. Could that be why? I know I don’t eat enough calories most days but I’m not sure if that’s why I’m gaining weight.
Thankful for any input.
You should probably consult with a nutritionist. Your case is probably too unique for reddit to diagnose you accurately. But, here’s a couple of thoughts.
> I do drink diet coke and chew gum while fasting. Could that be why?
No, That’s not really going to matter
> (even before fasting) I eat around 1000 calories a day
1000 is very little, so I would be nervous about reducing it very much, but if you are eating the same amount as before, you’re not going to lose any weight. If you were somehow maintaining your weight with 1000 per day before you started IF, 1000 per day will continue to maintain your weight.
Hello! It is not that easy to say why this happens as all our bodies are different but what we could suggest is to quit drinking diet coke and chewing gum during your fasting window because these two breaks it.

Hopefully, this helps! 😊
