I really hate cardio but I love weight training. But I read somewhere on this sub that weight training while fasting will slow your fat loss. Is this true?
Jason Fung actively recommends weight training during fasting. According to him 1) you should weight train to avoid loss of muscle mass 2) growth hormone is secreted by the body during extended fasting, and weight training in the presence of endogenous GH stimulates muscle growth.
Training while fasted not only reduces muscle mass lost while fasting, it strengthens metabolic pathways which draw energy from fat cells during conditions of increased energy expenditure
if you’re someone that has low blood pressure or gets light headed easily you should be careful, but there’s no reason not to perform resistance training while fasted (though keep in mind that exercise damages the muscle and eating is part of the repair process - the longer you are into a fast the more gentle you should be with your body)
Weight training is encouraged whilst fasting, by using your muscles, you signal to your body not to break them down. By doing nothing your body considered muscle tissue unnecessary and will utilize it to provide energy (alongside fat stores)..
There’s no point, you’ll still probably lose muscle even if you weight train and fast you need protein for muscle growth too. And to maintain the muscle lost will be regained in no time with a proper diet and training.
I’ve not heard that it isn’t unless it’s a longer fast. But weight training while intermittently fasting is just fine.
But longer fast would deprive you of protein which is helpful in rebuilding muscle microtears which could slow recovery and potentially lead to injury. But only on longer fasts.
