Acid reflux acts up during fasting periods. What can I do?

It makes it so hard to not eat and stop the symptoms of acid reflux. I stopped green tea and coffee during fast but it still acts up. Any suggestions?

I have GERD (acid reflux if it was Olympic level). I also struggle a bit. I feel like when there is no food in my stomach, my stomach just throws acid into my esophagus instead.

Sadly, I’ve not found a great solution that works all the time. I take digestive enzymes when I have a flare up. I also invested in a good probiotic. Working on my digestive system with these has helped for sure. I actually started IF as a way to help my IBS/GERD. I’ve gotten MUCH better but I still have some bad days.

Find out what foods trigger you and try to avoid those. I can eat spicy foods all day and be fine but I took a sip of pineapple juice at work the other day (I’m a bartender and wanted to make sure it was still good) and I had heartburn for the rest of my shift.

Losing weight should help your reflux as well. I would very much suggest avoiding heartburn medicine if you can. My body is ruined because of long term use and I’m trying to wean off the last of it now.

I think I’ve read that your body can start pumping acid when it expects a meal, which causes stuff like feeling nauseous when skipping breakfast. So if you’re new to fasting your body might just not have got the memo yet about skipping your previous meal times.
