Advice!

Hi guys. I’ve recently started intermittent fasting and am looking for some tips. I eat between 12pm and 7pm and only drink clear fluids out of those times. Although, I did initially make the mistake of having milk in my morning coffee.

I generally eat healthily and only really enjoy something sweet and a condiment in small quantities, all within my eating hours.

As well as the obvious “get fit and do it for myself” side of it, my motivation for starting to fast is purely to aid my weight loss while on my journey to get back to a place where I feel good, comfortable, confident and impressive to my girlfriend.

I’m looking for general advice and just any tips people may have. Additionally, if anyone has any good tips on how to consume alcohol but not ruin the fast that would be great. As much as I want to do this I won’t sacrifice the occasional night out with my girlfriend so tips on how to mitigate this would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance. You’re helping me more than you realise :)

Answer

You can’t consume alcohol and be fasting, but you can time shift your day, or take a day off to enjoy a night out. It slows the overall process but life is long. Have the fun.

I don’t know what you mean with regard to clear liquids, but hopefully you’re overall on the right track.

Eat less, still healthy, enjoy life and all that.

Answer

If I personally am going to drink, I nearly always do so on a near empty stomach in order to drink less total, and put less burden on the liver.

Having said that, alcohol will absolutely end the fast, and also revert some of the main benefits of fasting.

A tip if I may: try having a large coffee with the alcohol. I find it reduces the ‘down’ period, and there is science suggesting it helps the liver eliminate the toxic byproducts of alcohol faster.
