After colonoscopy, then what?

I wonder if I should just keep fasting after my colonoscopy & endoscopy later today? I was prescribed an electrolyte solution to prep that I’ve been drinking all day yesterday to flush me out and instructed not to eat since 10am yesterday. At this point I am defecating nothing but clear water. I’m thinking, with completely cleared out intestines, is it safe to use this as a starting point and keep the fast going? Any doctors in the subreddit or anyone with experience fasting post-colonoscopy? I still have goals I’m trying to reach.

Answer

I had my colonoscopy at the tail end of a 4-day fast!

Listen to your stomach, it is put through the washing machine on high and may not be a happy camper. I was planning on doing 5 days but decided to cut at 4 days. A colonoscopy will leave you highly dehydrated and very likely to throw your electrolytes completely out of whack. Do ask your anesthesiologist to be a darling and to throw an extra bag of fluids on you, that will help you the most.
