Also a newbie question: collagen

I just started IF three weeks ago and accidentally just started with rolling 48s. Turns out I love this, did a 72, discovered you wonderful people, ordered some snake juice packets, and now I want to challenge myself. I’m starting a 15 day fast tonight and if that goes well I want to do a 21 day.

I have a question about collagen. I usually add it to protein shakes when I’m not fasting or apple cider vinegar water when I am fasting. Can I still add collagen or would it be inadvisable?

Just for reference info: I’m F, 44. I’ve been doing low carb/keto off and on for 9 years, but I keep getting stupid/lazy and gain it all back. This time around, since October 1, 2021: SW320, CW243, GW 120.

Collagen is a scam, it does not better than any other protein, your body break it down to amino acids and use as it please. Having collagen doesn’t mean you are having more collagen in the body. It’s just a source of protein as any other.

I wouldn’t add collagen during a fast I always end my fasts with bone broth. It is high in collagen , fat, and minerals. But, during a fast I feel like it would be detrimental because fasting is about putting your body in repair mode instead of growth mode ( at least somewhat).

Hi there. Congratulations on your progress. I am also in my forties and take collagen for my skin and joints. However I notice such a good difference to my skin after a 72hr fast that I save the collagen for my refeed.
