Answer

With time, your taste will change. I can barely drink soda anymore because of how sickly sugary it is. And I really can’t stand the fake sugar stuff. Once I convinced myself that water was my best option, I stuck with it, and now I really enjoy a cool gass of filtered water.

Honestly, give yourself some grace. If you’re drinking lots of cokes, then move to something like sweet tea. Then less sweet tea. Then maybe the flavored sparkling water with no sugar.

What I’m getting at is that whatever change you make, it only has to be better that what you’re doing now. As you keep going, just make everything 1% better…it all ads up.

Water.

But I’m working on a theory (downvote me if you must). Go with me on this, it might take a minute.

When I was a kid I couldn’t get enough water. A lot of my childhood we had a cooler in my house with purified water but I drank lots of tap water too. Now I’m struggling to drink it (tap water), but I also don’t drink anything else, except coffee, but just in the morning and it’s easy enough for me to stop. Anyways, I’m kind of big on your body’s intuition.

I was not big on ‘intuitive eating’ at first until I started eating healthy and could sometimes tell the difference between craving mentally and when my body is really asking for something. Like for example back in the day when I used to drink as a teen, my body craved orange juice, or at least citrus juice, like first thing in the morning when I was hungover. At the time I didn’t think anything of it, but in retrospect that’s a smart body.

Ok back to the point, I wonder and (I haven’t really looked into this) if they started treating the water more drastically. We have chlorine in the water. Maybe they add other stuff I don’t know. Maybe they treat it differently from when I was growing up; but my body is just not asking for water that much even though I’m dehydrated. It asks for watery fruits, coconut waters (which I’ve never been much of a fan of), but when it comes to straight tap water I have to force it back. It’s like my body doesn’t want it, even though I’m thirsty. I then immediately pee it out. And it’s not even like I don’t like water. I was a kid who drank a ton of water and never craved anything else. Could it be that my body wants to avoid something harsh in there?

All this to say: try drinking purified water. See if it makes a difference. I can’t afford it right now but am trying to come up with solutions.

Answer

Hm, I think tea and iced tea might be one? I have tried flavored water but couldn’t get that right, I haven’t tried purifying tablets but those could be good too. I couldn’t really drink tap water, but I got a benchtop water filter thing that also chills, that was my way of getting into water - took a while though. Broth/soup is another one I’ve thought of. Hope this helps!
