Cardio during the fast

Started adding a lot more cardio to my life and am wondering if anyone has any experience making more fat loss gains while doing cardio fasted versus after eating. I don’t find it difficult as I’ve been IF for awhile and have done smaller exercises before breaking fast before just wondering if anyone has had success losing more fat doing cardio while fasted

Answer

I only recently started IF the past 3 weeks but I’ve been doing cardio during this time. I personally enjoy doing cardio at the end of my fast for two reasons.

  1. It works with my schedule. I do roughly 16:8 (longer fast some days) and I like to work out in the early afternoon. So I’ll go workout before breaking my fast and that’ll help me add an extra hour to my fast.

  2. Working out also makes me less hungry right after and also more conscious of what I’m eating. This means I’m more likely to make healthier choices for lunch since I just worked hard at the gym to burn calories.

Honestly, just do it whatever well feels best for you, this won’t matter, or at least minimally, in the long run. The overall equation of calories remains the same. You reach the same deficit either way. You metabolism burns X amount and your cardio burns Y amount.

So if you do your cardio fasted. Yes, your body is preferring to use body fat for energy, but that just means it takes you longer for your metabolism to burn up your food later. But you end up in the same place reversing it. It’s just your metabolism is spending a longer time burning fat because you helped empty the tank.
