Did a 21 day water fast and gained 20lbs back?? I’m eating super clean tho.

Some of you may have seen my posts a while back last month during my long fast. I lost a total of 68 pounds in seven weeks and three of those weeks I was fasting. However now that I’m back to eating I’ve gained 20 pounds back and I’m a bit worried. I am eating plant-based and I am not eating any sugar, salt, or oil and also not eating meat or dairy. I do sometimes slightly put a little bit of sea salt on my dish when I eat it but other than that I am salt free. I guess I’m just wondering why I’ve gained so much weight back. I am also eating less and working out more as I just signed up for a gym so maybe my weight gain is muscle? I’m really not sure. I was 495 pounds 10 weeks ago and now I am 445 pounds.

There’s what you have in you stomach and intestines in transit along with the water associated with that…then there is the glycogen you will have replenished and the water associated with that. Personally, it sounds like you are in a really good place regarding just how much body fat you have dropped. Well done and I hope you see the positive as I do.

The heavier you are the more water weight your body holds. At 450 lbs I’d wager 15 of those lbs is water weight (total guess). I understand it’s discouraging, water weight is misleading, but the bright side is YOU LOST 50 POUNDS!

Answer

The weight is from the food in your stomach, intestines, etc. And also, you eat carbs, so you hold more water.

This is not fat being put back on (where could it come from?). Also, measure yourself. When the scale won’t drop, usually your measurements are.

Muscle weight is heavier that fat.

You are doing great! Keep it up.
