Hiii, so I just joined this sub.. I’m beginning or should I say resuming my weight loss journey tomorrow and I want to do the intermittent fast.. Those who have successfully lost some weight with IF, did you count calories?? I mean I know we shouldn’t eat a lot and all but did you literally count calories while on IF?? Or you just cut down on the amount of food you used to eat..? thanks.
Count your calories! IF is a tool that can help you eat less by limiting the amount of time you have to eat. But at all levels of IF, you can consume more calories than your calorie goal if you are not aware of how many you are eating.
That is not to say people are not successful with only using IF and not calorie counting but they likely already were not drastically overeating and the time limitations were enough to bring their calories consumed down enough to be in a deficit.
I suggest to start IF and get a feel for it, give it a month and figure out what window (16:8, 18:6, 20:4, OMAD) you want to go with, then start working on counting.
Ultimately it comes down to individual bodies, goals, habits, etc.
Personally I don’t count calories, but I’m also a large active person who snacked a lot. So just adding the structure of IF and making an effort to eat better most of the time was enough for me.
There’s a spectrum between weighing every ingredient meticulously and unrestricted eating.
I started IF and plan on counting my calories. I know this is how I’m staying on track to hit my weight loss goal.
However, I’m using an app that just tracks calories eaten and nothing else. I tried using MFP but got too discouraged if I went over my daily fat, protein, or carb goals, or if I didn’t hit them. Keeping it as simple as possible will help me stick with it.
I don’t. Because I don’t wNt this to become a chore. I don’t try to eat everything in site just because the clock is ticking. I eat how I normally would and whatever I get to eat I eat! In saying that though, Because I only have x number of hours to eat, I choose quality over quantity 😊195 > 180
Yes I do. Due to my wife’s cooking habits I’m at risk of not eating enough protein during the day. Counting calories and particularly macros with MyFitnessPal helps me stay where I want to be. There might be a better app for this purpose, but it’s what I use and it works for me.
For what it’s worth, I’m following a modest 14:10 protocol, started on January 1st at 176 pounds and I’m at 170 today. I’m a 36 y/o male and I want to be at 150 pounds by late March.
