Doing 48 hr fasts weight stalled

I recently started fasting, I lost 10 lbs the first week and now the weight has been stalled for 6 days. I’m not at that lean stage either yet. How is it possible that being in a 4000 cal deficit for a couple cycles and you don’t lose weight? That equates to 10 hours of cardio in two days.

I read about the “woosh” effect where your fat cells release fat and replace with water to keep integrity of cell. To what extent can this be happening?

I got fed up and did a carb refeed in which the day after I gained like half a pound and then lost it after a day of fasting.

Has anyone overcome this?

Answer

  1. You need some patience in general because it’s been less than 2 weeks and you’re complaining about only losing 10 lbs. Losing 10 lbs in a week is not normal or sustainable.

  2. Eating less than 1000 calories every two days is probably causing your body to cling to the fat and nutrients it has stored and be more energy efficient since it doesn’t know when food will be coming again or if it will be enough. You should try eating more. This is a common mistake. People think that if eating 1500 calories a day is a good defecit, then eating 500 calories a day must be a great defecit. Your body is smarter than that and will adjust to keep you alive while you starve it.
