Fasting and anxiety

Hey guy’s so I been intermittent fasting for about a year now. I started working out a lot like 4 to 5 times a week doing weight training

I been noticing I’m very lathergic, tired, fatigued and get a little anxious later throughout the day.

My guess is that my body is requiring more energy and that I have been doing this long enough. Should I stop and start eating regularly or is there a solution for this fix?

edit: didn’t realise you were talking about intimitten fasting before I made my post

Fasting helped with anxiety and depression for me. It also gives me a massive feeling of empowerment, knowing I’m doing something that not many others are doing.

Generally it numbed a lot of my emotions

Don’t give up at the first sign of difficulty. Sometimes you need to force yourself out of the situation, go for a walk etc

Answer

Fasting is not likely the cause of your anxiety. You’ve been fasting for a year and been fine. You recently started working out a lot and your anxiety increased. That’s not to say that working out is definitely the cause, either… there could be any number of environmental factors at play here… but your timeline doesn’t lend itself to fasting being the cause.

Answer

If your workouts are high intensity without proper recovery periods there could be some increase in cortisol.

People may say fasting is the end all be all and doesn’t increase anything bad but that’s not my experience. I am a strong proponent of fasting but also know (test of one) that my stress level can kick up on longer fasts. I notice it through increased heart rate, lower quality sleep, and other anxiety related reactions.

Hard workouts and longer fasts increase my stress responses and I sometimes see heightened anxiety.

All that being said, we are complex beings and fasting/exercise may be correlated but not causing anxiety. Don’t be afraid to further explore causes of anxiety outside of fasting/anxiety.
