Fasting when sick

I have my first common cold since I started IF a year ago. I’ve just been fasting 18:6 like I normally do, but after this particularly tough day of chills, congestion, sore throat, and all that loveliness I was wondering if fasting longer would help me get better fast? Or if it’s slowing down my immune system. Does anyone know?

Answer

Take care of yourself. Your body is straining to fend off the invader, don’t continue the stress. I have been living on cough drops and popsicles for the last week. This is an opinion, but really I believe the best option is do what you need to do to get through the cold.

I always take a break from fasting when sick and just do whatever my body feels like doing. Sometimes it’s skipping a meal, sometimes it’s eating. I don’t worry about sticking to a fasting schedule. I figure if my body feels like it wants to eat while it’s fighting off invaders then thats what I’ll do.

Answer

Maybe get a covid test - sounds like how I was two weeks ago and I was positive with what I’m assuming was the new variant 😅 Took a small break from fasting because I needed to prioritize hydration (Gatorade and stuff) as well as eating enough when I could stomach it. Do what feels best for you!
