Fasting while sick??

I’m pretty sure I have a sinus infection or a really bad cold, symptoms are: sore throat, coughing a lot, congestion. Is it safe to fast? I was planning a 5 day fast but I don’t know anymore..

The old phrase used to be. Starve a bacterial infection. And feed your body to fight a virus.

But nowadays with the 0.1% knowledge we have of the biome. You could always feed the right bacteria to beat out the wrong ones. ie zero sugar, zero dairy, carnivore. But its hard to know which diet your biome will respond too. If thats even a thing. Could be pseudo science.

All I know is from my own experience. The last time I had major toothache. A 5 day hard dry fast cleared it up very nicely. 120 hours, no contact with water.I imagine it depends on the state and location of infection. My pain was coming from the upper and lower teeth making it hard to chew.

If its not a bacterial infection. And you are ok to eat. Perhaps theres an allergen in either the food or drink or something you’re coming into contact with.

Good luck. x

p.s make sure you have enough fat to cover the 5 day dry fast please.

Give it try, I’ve done it and you just feel awful, if you go by it fast, you wont even notice it, dont do any sports, exercise or anything of the kind. Remember when you are sick your bodies main priority is to get you better.

Answer

Fasting while sick is the best option for quick recovery (given you’re not malnourished or extremely skinny).

That’s what animals do instinctively. Have you ever noticed that you tend to be less hungry when sick? There’s a reason for that.

It lets the body focus entirely on fighting the disease (if you also stay at rest) instead of also having to manage food processing.

Answer

Never fast while sick! I once got sick while fasting and had to suspend my fast after 10 hours as I felt I was getting sicker and sicker by the hour. It was unfortunately too late as the cold had turned into a mega cold that took 10 days to clear.

It’s not a joke when they tell you to hydrate, take vitamin c, eat, and rest while sick.
