Hey! I’m new to fasting and I’m about to finish my 3 day fast tomorrow. I’ve been drinking plenty of water and I plan to break my fast with some eggs; but my question is how often do you all do this and for how long each time? How do you avoid gaining the weight back post fast? Any information would be lovely, thanks!
Honestly I go through cycles. 2+ years ago I lost 30 pounds using various forms of IF to get to a weight I’m comfortable with then I switched to maintaining. I’ll maintain for months until slowly my diet gets out of control (relatively speaking, I’m just a sucker for sweets) then I’ll get 5-10 pounds away from where I want to be and go back to IF. I just started again and did a 24 hour fast on Tuesday because it gives me the confidence to control my diet. I would say I go through 2 or 3 periods a year of IF for a few weeks to month at a time.

There are other health benefits to fasting besides weight-loss that people use all year around but I’m admittedly vain and use it to look better.
Great job getting started! For me and many others, fasting is all about managing insulin levels as that’s the hormone that tells the body to store fat. If insulin levels are low, the body will burn fat. When I do intermittent fasting, I break fast by eating LCHF, or low carb high fat foods. These don’t raise insulin levels so you don’t gain weight back. I’m on day 4 of an extended fast right now and I’ll probably start my refeed with low carb high protein meal replacement shakes.
Hey. I’m new too, well I’ll start tomorrow. Going through some posts before starting. How many lbs did you lose in your 3 day fast? And, did you take any magnesium pill? Thanks. Good luck with your fasting!
