How to maintain a fast - I always end up getting hungry and eating. What keeps you motivated?

How do you go for long periods of time without eating? I always get hungry and when I see food I have to eat it (I live with two roommates so it’s impossible for me to go without seeing food throughout the day). What keeps you motivated?

Answer

I do OMAD for many years, so i get hungry only during specific hours. Once i pass those hours it’s easy to fast for another day. So when hunger hours come i just have something planned to occupy my mind.

I do 3x36 hour fasts/week and have for a while now. If I’m ever feeling hungry or it’s a particularly rough day I watch videos by Dr. Pradip Jamnadas and Jason Fung. The info they provide reminds me why I’m doing this and motivates me to keep going.

Answer

You just need to make the active decision “I am not going to eat that day”

My girlfriend cooks and tells me what she makes and I can smell it, but that’s cool, because I am not eating that day.

It’s simply not an option

It’s an exercise in willpower and commitment to yourself as much as it is about diet

Answer

I’ll be honest. I cheat. I have a 25 or 0 calorie energy drink, coffee, tea, or 10 calorie packet energy drinks or “juice”. I’m a recovering alcoholic and the amount of physical pain alcohol withdrawal can give pales in comparison to simple hunger pains. And I’ve done OMAD so many times for over 23 years I can usually power through with just water. If it’s an electrolyte problem, I’ll have a zero calorie Powerade, or knockoff packet, pickle juice etc. Sleep and work help a lot.. I’m not a fasting purest but maybe this will help.

Answer

Definitely my goals for weight loss, and managing PCOS/insulin problems. I make myself list out what my goals are and then look at my progress/other people’s progress when I feel hungry. It helps remind me that the food isn’t worth stopping my progress
