I feel great when I've done a fast, but I'm scared...

I have fasted for 38 hours twice in the last two months and I always feel great after.

I’m 21F, weigh around 98 kg and is 168 cm. I would love to get to 70 kg, since that would be better for my health. I have found that fasting (alongside obviously trying to eat better food) has been really good for me. I always do 16/8, that’s just the norm for me nowadays. But the longer fasts, like 24 hours or 36 has been really great for my goal. (And for saving money tbh, I’m a poor student).

But doing longer fasts than 38 hours sounds kind of scary to me, honestly. I would love to try 48 hours someday, but I’m scared of not having any energy for my studying. That I’d get too hungry.

Any advice to get over the mental part? Because I know logically that I won’t starve since I have a good storage of stored fat already. Do you guys have any advice for doing longer than 38 hour fasts? Can you guys workout while fasting?

Ok so you’re presumably already skipping breakfast doing 16/8. Try skipping lunch for a few weeks and just eat dinner. That gets easy fast. One week push your dinners later till nearer bedtime. Next skip a dinner and eat the next one - insta 48. I suggested pushing the meal back to nearer bedtime as it is mentally easier for me to skip so near to bedtime - I just go to bed.

I like doing this weekdays so I have dinner on Sun then 1 meal Tues and one meal Thurs. Its easy to mentally prepare for if you think youre already skipping 2 meals a day, 1 is the norm so why not skip that. There’s always the ‘I can eat tomorrow’ when the hunger kicks in.

This gradual build-up should help you get used to not eating. Take electrolytes is you feel keto flu or crappy in general during the fasts. Studying shouldnt be an issue if you build up to it.

The only way to get over it is to do it so you can see there’s nothing to be scared of. Sucks, but that’s how it is. We can tell you all kinds of things but you’re the one who has to experience it.

If you’re worried then I’d consider not working out or putting any other pressure on yourself. It’s going to be easier if you just focus on the one thing. Pick a time when you have fewer responsibilities and you can rest. This may be a weekend for example.

Answer

if you can do 38 hours you can do 48 hours it is more a mind game really

listen to your body if you can do it during a 2 day breakeven better, you may feel tired in that case go for a nap then carry on stay hydrated it tends to be around the 3 days mark when you may feel headaches/pains/anger and other stuff.
