IF while recovering from Hypotalamic Amenorrhea?

I am recovering from HA (that means I’ve lost my period due to anorexia in the past -I don’t have anorexia anymore but my period has been lacking for 1 and a half year-. I would like to try IF for health-digestive and aesthetic related benefits (as I gained quite a lot of weight), but it is really hard for me because I feel a big crash in my energy levels and I can’t sleep well when I do it. Do you think I should recover first and get my period back so my body feels stable after starting an IF journey?

Answer

I wouldn’t do IF right now. I’d eat at maintenance levels until your period comes back for a few months before making any major dietary changes.

And check in with your medical team to make sure you’re still in a good place to even try IF when the time comes to consider starting it. And if you’re still seeing a therapist, keep them involved. If you don’t have one, consider finding one.

Don’t rush things. You have plenty of time to make the positive changes you want to see in yourself.
