Major dry mouth in the middle of the night

I started having issues this year later on into my fasting journey - I will wake up a couple times per week with major dry mouth. I am talking zero saliva in my mouth where I have to rinse with water. This is concerning to me because I am sure I am asleep for hours like this. I have read if that happens your teeth can crack because they’re not meant to be dry.

What is the solution for super dry mouth and why would this be occurring?

Answer

There are a ton of possible reasons, and we can’t tell you which it is unfortunately. Anything from antihistamine use to diabetes to dehydration to oral thrush to being a smoker to certain autoimmune diseases to just sleeping in a super dry room could be causing it.

The fix might be to drink more water, get a humidifier, or see a doctor. Or something else!

I would start by trying to assess if there are any commonalities on the days that precede the nights when you wake up with a dry mouth and work from there!
