Rolling 72 hour diet

Hi, new to this subreddit and fasting. My goal is to lose 60 pounds in 90 days. I just found out about the rolling 72 diet. I have a few questions, like is this amount of weight loss feasible? Will my body go into shock? What kind of tips do you have?

Answer

Yes it’s feasible.

No your body won’t go into shock unless you break your fast by chugging a large coke.

A few tips: exercise in some form every day, walking counts. Bonus points for light/moderate weightlifting.

Start your fast in dietary keto to minimize hunger. Have a “hunger plan” on what to do when you do get hungry.

Have some kind of salt and potassium on hand. Table salt and NoSalt brand for example. Taking 1500mg sodium 500mg potassium per day (spread throughout the day) is my personal go-to number. Do NOT take too many electrolytes unless you want a 1-way ticket to the toilet.

Finally I’d recommend you take some time to watch some talks about fasting by experts, understanding some of the science behind how fasting works helps me a lot. Here is a good introductory one by Dr. Jason Fung who specialises in fasting: https://youtu.be/6aiR1mFD7Gw

Answer

In my experience, I lose about 1/3 pounds per fasting day for fasts longer than 36 hours. So a three day fast would be about 1 pound lost (not including water weight loss which is more dramatic). To lose 60 pounds in 90 days, you would have to lose 2/3 pounds per fasting day, and be very careful with what you eat during refeeds. I would say it might be possible, but probably very difficult.
