To workout or not during fasting?

I liquid fasted for two days and then the 3rd day before my personal training session I ate one egg spinach and some of those gardein chicken tenders and had a tbs of peanut butter. That was about 5pm. At my 7am PT session I couldn’t do anything I was so out of breath felt like I was going to faint and my heart was beating rapidly. The instructors gave me a granola bar and I felt a bit better.

So where do you guys think I went wrong? I thought I would play it safe by eating a little before the session, but then I thought I would have energy even without eating because I read that as a benefit of fasting before.

by liquid, do you mean juice, broth, water?

for the gardein tenders: per 2 tenders, thats 630g sodium. each egg has about 65 - 70 mg sodium. 150 mg sodium per 2 tbsp peanutbutter (one rounded tbsp).

yeah, following a 2 day fast, it sounds like refeed syndrome, in which you are now so insulin sensitive that nutrients rush into cells faster than they can handle, causing electrolyte imbalances. makes sense in the case of sodium from what you ate.

next time you break a fast of that length, stick to lean, plain, boring protein / non-sodium, non-sugar containing foods for the first couple meals.

I’m messing around with this right now, I’ve started to eat on lifting days and fast every other day. It might turn into eating before my lift and fasting on lifting days if I start to feel optimal.

I will say even though I backed off today I felt OK but I didn’t feel as tight and focused as I normally do. That being said I didn’t back off too much. I’m interested to see how it goes with experience
