Weight loss and wine?

I’m really curious to see if any of you have been able to still partake in alcohol and still lost weight, or if I’m gonna have to go sober for this. I am prepared to cut back on alcohol for the sake of weight loss!

Answer

Alcohol itself packs a lot of calories per unit mass, close to fat! The calories in a glass of wine are mostly from alcohol, not sugar, with the exception of some malolactic fermented monstrosities and dessert wines.

Cutting back on alcohol will definitely enhance your weight loss…. Unfortunately. In 2019 I went through a dry 6 month period. I’d order a mocktail or soft drink at a restaurant. Probably because I would just order one non alcoholic drink, instead of multiple glasses, I did actually lose more weight drinking a small amount of pop than my usual wine and cocktails.

I (29M) run ALOT, I eat very well (vegetarian, relatively low carb) and I generally intermittent fast most days (16:8). All this has been going on for roughly 3 years.

I couldn’t really work out why I didn’t lose more weight.. Im healthy but bmi probably still around 24/25.

I recently stopped drinking for 6 weeks and the weight flew off. It makes a massive difference!

I think your liver is just too preoccupied to deal with processing alcohol if you have a wine or beer a few nights a week. Plus all the empty calories..

Answer

Yea if you want to lose weight you pretty much have to restrict your alcohol a lot. Wine is better than most, but it is still just empty calories and impacts your training performance and sleep (check your Fitbit results like breathing rate, heart rate variability etc after drinking if you need proof). Plus the whole restraint thing.
